A First Look at the New Unified Patent Court

Rome, April 12, 2024 – “The Unified Patent Court is a new international court with jurisdiction over unitary patents and European patents. It has its central headquarters in Paris and Monaco, along with various local offices. On June 1, 2023, this court officially began its operations.

Thanks to the government’s commitment, we succeeded in securing that a portion of the central office’s responsibilities would be assigned to Milan. The agreement for the new Milan office was signed on January 24, 2024, and it will be operational by June.

I have organized a conference at Montecitorio next Monday, April 15, starting at 2:30 PM. In collaboration with the Order of Industrial Property Consultants, this event aims to review the first few months of the court’s work and gather insights from companies, policymakers, and court operators.

Several experts will participate, including Carlo Nordio (Minister of Justice), Antonio Tajani (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Klaus Grabinski (President of the Unified Patent Court), as well as internationally renowned judges and professors.” – communicated by Simone Billi, Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and European Patent Attorney.
