Trump: Peace and Pragmatism, Enough with Leftist Mainstream

Rome, 14/10/2025 – “We strongly support Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize with the Lega motion submitted to the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate, and the European Parliament, to promote the ongoing peace process in Gaza and restore stability to the entire Middle East.
Enough with socialist foreign policy that has brought a severe economic and labor crisis to our beloved Continent, uncontrolled immigration that is eroding Europe’s security and identity, and enough with support for an international terrorist organization like Hamas, as seen in many squares across Italy.
Italy, with the Center-Right, stands with Trump and true peace, built with courage and responsibility, for Israelis, Palestinians, and all the Arab peoples of the Middle East,” stated Hon. Simone Billi, Lega Salvini Premier group leader in the Foreign Affairs Committee.

THE MOTION

The Chamber,

Premised that:

The Nobel Peace Prize, established by Alfred Nobel’s will in 1895 and awarded for the first time in 1901, represents the highest international recognition given to those who have contributed to “the greatest benefit to humankind” by promoting peace, cooperation among peoples, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts;

This honor, over the decades, has served not only a celebratory but also a proactive and symbolic role, recognizing individuals and organizations that have had the courage to initiate reconciliation processes, build diplomatic bridges, and affirm the primacy of politics over armed conflict;

Among the many significant precedents are Theodore Roosevelt (1906) for mediating the Russo-Japanese War; Woodrow Wilson (1919) for creating the League of Nations; Anwar al-Sadat and Menachem Begin (1978) for the Camp David Accords; Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, and Yasser Arafat (1994) for the Oslo Accords; and Barack Obama (2009) for his efforts to strengthen international diplomacy. These examples demonstrate that the Nobel Peace Prize can and should be awarded prospectively, as an incentive to continue peace processes or consolidate diplomatic achievements already underway;

On October 7, 2023, Hamas carried out an unprecedented terrorist attack against the State of Israel, resulting in the deaths of over 1,200 civilians, the kidnapping of hundreds of hostages, and triggering a spiral of violence and instability that rapidly engulfed the entire Middle East region. This escalation, involving both state and non-state actors, has exacerbated an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and compromised security balances across the region;

The “Gaza Peace Plan,” promoted by the U.S. administration led by President Donald J. Trump, represents the most concrete and comprehensive proposal to date for a ceasefire and lasting stabilization of the area, outlining a series of political, humanitarian, and security measures aimed at the demilitarization of Gaza, civilian reconstruction, and mutual recognition of the parties. This plan, thanks to intense diplomatic efforts, has been accepted by all counterparts, including Hamas, marking a historic milestone in Middle Eastern diplomacy. The mediation, driven by U.S. diplomacy, actively involved Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Turkey, confirming an unprecedented multilateral peace process in the region;

The political significance of the Peace Plan aligns with the Abraham Accords of 2020, promoted by the first Trump administration, which led to the normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab states (United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan). These accords represent one of the most significant diplomatic achievements in the Arab-Israeli context in recent decades, with the long-term goal of involving all countries in the region;

Additionally, during his two terms leading the United States, Trump has repeatedly expressed his commitment to ending conflicts and fostering peace through diplomacy, direct dialogue between parties, and rejection of armed interventionism;

The effective implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan, including the maintenance of a lasting ceasefire under international guarantees, would provide a legitimate and well-founded basis for nominating President Donald J. Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Such recognition would serve as a powerful encouragement for all actors involved, particularly Israeli and Palestinian civil society, in promoting a culture of peace and mutual respect;In a historical moment marked by the resurgence of antisemitism and radicalization, a peace initiative of this magnitude represents a signal of hope and global responsibility,

Calls on the Government

  1. To support the nomination of President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his role in mediation and contribution to peace in the Middle East, conditional on the concrete implementation and realization of the Gaza Peace Plan.
